Brittany And The Case Of The Bird

"So, Brittany, can you try to explain to me why you were keeping a bird in your locker?" Miss Pilsbury asks as she takes some hand sanitizer and rubs it between her hands."
"Because," Brittany says, looking down. "Miss Pilsbury, I... I caught it in July and have been keeping it ever since. I was trying to save the birds' life."
"And what is your motivation for that?" Miss Pilsbury asks.
"Because... I was worried that the bird would die in the winter if I didn't save it! What if it froze to death?"
"Brittany, I can assure you, that wouldn't have frozen to death. Birds fly south during the winter, it's called migration. Why don't you borrow a book from the library on it, it's a fascinating topic and a beautifully written book."
"I can't... read," Brittany admits, fingering the pleats on her red and white polyester cheerleading uniform. "There's too many... words. Anyways, what if the bird got left behind and froze to death?!"
"Brittany, listen to me. The chances of the bird getting left behind from the rest are extremely slim, but even if this happened, birds have lots of feathers that keep them warm, the bird would have been out of harms' way."
"Are you sure?"
"I'm positive. What have you been feeding the bird, exactly?"
"Gum."
"What?!" Miss Pilsbury gasped, and then shook her head.

"How can you be feeding a bird gum?" Emma asked in disbelief.

This girl must have a bit more problems right now than just the bird..

"Uh, you can't feed a bird gum. It.. you must know they don't, can't really eat that, even", she said calmly.

Brittany shrugged uncomfortably. "Miss Pilsbury... gum is good for birds, it has nutrients in it or something like that. And besides, gum was the only thing I could buy with the money my parents gave me for not having to repeat freshman year."

"Right, well.. if that is the case, maybe you should just let the bird go. I'm sure it'll do just fine on it's own", Emma assured.

I'd really like to meet her parents, yes..

"I really think that it'd be the best if you'd let it go."

"But why?" Brittany asked, tearing up. "I love that bird, and I can't let it just fly away from me, it knows all my secrets! It's the only person that knows that I'm pregnant!" And then when Brittany said that, she slapped her hand over her mouth.

"Miss Pilsbury, I wasn't supposed to tell you that," Brittany said, removing her hand from over her mouth and tugging nervously at her red and white polyester cheerleading uniform. "I... I haven't even told Santana yet, but I don't know what she'll do. I mean, she's horrible to Quinn, and we used to be friends with Quinn. I don't want to be just another Lima Loser like Quinn!"

Quinn took a startled step backwards from the door, shaking her head

I don't know if I should be surprised or not.

Quinn paused for a few moments, wondering whether or not to make her getaway.

No. You know what? I'm a strong girl. I'm going to wait right here and confront her when she walks out.

((OUT OF CHARACTER- We should stick to the order thingy in the rules- so next it should be Ms Pillsbury, followed by Brit and then me. Don't forget, we don't have to carry the entire story in here either We can link to other areas of the school and Lima, and keep the same storyname "Mysterious Case of the Bird", it will be the same storyline.))

Emma raised her eyebrows. Pregnant?

"What? You're..?" she sighed.

Focus.

"If you want to talk about it, you can talk to me", she smiled.

Lima Loser?

"I don't think Miss. Fabray is.. Brittany, everything will be fine. I promise."

Brittany sighed, looking down, and in that moment, she decided she officially liked Miss Pilsbury. But she was sick of sitting here... if she stayed any longer she would be late for Cheerios practice. "Miss, I'm... late for something, I gotta go. Thanks for your help. Bye!" Brittany quickly slung her book bag over her shoulder and got up, hurrying outside of the office.

"Quinn!" Brittany was shocked at the sight of the angry blond girl, and she chewed on her lower lip so hard it bled. "No, I... didn't make a mistake. I took 5 tests and they were all positive, so I went to the doctor and... it's a girl. I'm 3 months in." Then she looked down, hoping that Quinn wouldn't see the tears sliding down her face.

"I don't want to give her up," Brittany said slowly. "I... I don't want to give her up, and killing something so innocent because you made a mistake is just wrong. I... I'm thinking of keeping her."

"Yeah," Brittany said, frowning. "I just don't know if he'll understand... what he'll do when he finds out. And I'm afraid that Santana will shun me like she shuns you when she finds out... And I don't want to lose the Cheerios and get all fat!" Brittany cried out suddenly.
